Australia spends 0.36% of its GNP on aid programs. Most is spent in the AsiaûPacific region. Particular areas of focus are non-governmental organizations and HIV/AIDS programs. By far the greatest recipient, with $335 million, is Papua New Guinea, where Australian companies such as Broken Hill Proprietary have major mining operations.
